Mornings are always busy and super occupied. We wake up early, get ready for office, help kids to go school with their lunch and Yes! who can forget commuting to office. In all these juggling, we miss out focusing on some of the most important activities that directly effect our health and wellness. One of these is our morning diet. We all know that Breakfast is the most crucial meal for the day. After an 8 hour break from dinner, our body requires a good amount of nutrition. But because of these reasons, we miss having a balanced diet.

1. Besan Chilla

A very popular and tasty north Indian dish, Besan chilla is easy to make and does not require many ingredients. Making this is fast and simple.

Besan-Chilla

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup besan (gram flour)
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 green chilli, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder (optional)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp oil

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, add besan, salt, turmeric powder, and red chilli powder ( Mix well.
  2. Add water gradually and whisk the mixture until it becomes a smooth batter.
  3. Add chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilli, and cumin seeds to the batter. Mix well.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon of oil on pan and heat.
  5. Once the pan is hot, pour a ladle full of the batter on the pan and spread it in a circular motion to form a thin pancake.
  6. Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side or until it turns golden brown. Cook for an additional 1–2 minutes on the other side after flipping.
  7. Repeat the process with the remaining batter.

To make it more delicious, you can add seasoning of dhaniya and eat it with chutney.

2. Masala Omelette

Omelette is something that is real quick and easy to make. It is a good source of protein and keeps you full for a long time.

Masala-Omelette

Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Instructions:

  1. Crack the eggs in a bowl and beat them for 2 mins
  2. Add the chopped onion, tomato, green chili, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt to the eggs. Mix everything well.
  3. In a fry pan, warm the oil over medium heat.
  4. Spread the egg mixture into the pan.
  5. Cook the omelette for 2-3 minutes until the bottom is golden brown.
  6. Flip the omelette and let the other side also get golden brown
  7. Serve hot with bread or as a side dish with your meal.

You can add your choice of vegetables and spices to make it more nutritious and tasty.

3. Poha

It is also called flattened rice and is one of the trendiest choices of Breakfast in India. Poha is tasty, easily digestible and loved by adults as well as children.

Poha

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup poha (flattened rice)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 small tomato, chopped
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (optional)
  • Lemon wedges (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the poha in a sieve under running water until it softens. Drain excess water and keep aside.
  2. Add mustard and cumin seeds to a heated pan with oil. When they start to splutter, add chopped onion and green chili. Saute until onion turns translucent.
  3. Add tomato and cook for few mins.
  4. Add turmeric powder and salt.
  5. Add the rinsed poha and mix gently. 
  6. Serve hot with fresh coriander stems as a garnish.

It is easy to prepare and you can add some veggies, groundnuts or dry fruits to make it even more interesting.

4. Sandwiches

Sandwiches are the most preferred choices when you are getting late for work or do not want to spend much time in the kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of bread
  • 2-3 slices of deli meat (such as ham or turkey)
  • 1-2 slices of cheese
  • Lettuce or other greens
  • Mayonnaise or other condiments of your choice

Instructions:

  1. Toast the bread slices in a toaster or on a pan until lightly golden.
  2. Spread mayonnaise or your favorite condiment on one or both slices of bread.
  3. Add the deli meat slices on top of one slice of bread, followed by the cheese slices and lettuce.
  4. Place the other slice of bread on top and press down lightly to secure the sandwich.
  5. Half cut the sandwich and enjoy!

5. Salads and Sprouts

Bored of having a regular breakfast? You can break the monotony with this interesting Sprout Salad made of Moong Daal, Veggies and fruits. It is high in fibre and provides an adequate amount of protein.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mixed sprouts (mung beans, lentils, chickpeas, etc.)
  • 1 small tomato, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 small cucumber, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lemon juice to taste

Instructions:

  1. Drain the water after fully rinsing the sprouts..
  2. Mix the sprouts with chopped tomato, onion, and cucumber in a bowl.
  3. Season the salad with salt, pepper, and lemon juice according to your taste.
  4. Mix well and serve immediately.

To save your morning time and efforts, you can keep the ingredients ready at night and mix it in the morning.

6. Roti Rolls

This tasty dish is super easy and quick to put together. Just keep ready everything in advance so you can roll them up in the morning. It becomes even tastier if you use Mayonnaise or tomato ketchup with the filling.

Roti-Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 4 rotis
  • 1/2 cup chopped veggies (e.g. bell peppers, onions, carrots)
  • 1/2 cup cooked chicken or paneer
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/2 lemon

Instructions:

  1.  Heat oil to medium heat in pan.
  2. Add the chopped veggies and cook for 2-3 minutes, until they are slightly soft.
  3. Add the cooked chicken or paneer to the pan and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add salt, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and garam masala powder to the pan and mix well.
  5. Squeeze the lemon juice over the mixture and stir.
  6. Heat the rotis on a tawa or in a microwave until they are slightly warm and pliable.
  7. Place a spoonful of the vegetable and chicken/paneer mixture in the center of each roti.
  8. Roll the rotis tightly around the filling, tucking in the sides before eating.

These are super convenient as you can carry them in your tiffin also.
